Flying Scotsmen News

Here is our periodic update on what's occurring in our area

Jim & Steve recently made the trip to Islay with friends for a week away, but were unfortunately skunked by the vagaries of the Hebridean weather. On four occasions they were kitted up and ready to go, when the prevalent low-pressure gusts picked up and put paid to their attempts to get away. Here's Jim at Ardtalla at the ready, we were trying, honest!. On the Tuesday conditions looked good-NOT (under Cu-nimbs!!!), and eerie calm conditions were punctured by showers every half hour.

This was the first time in four years that the weather has been unsuitable for flying all week long. Better safe than sorry, though, and the Ardbeg helped soothe furrowed brows!

Gordon is about to become the proud new owner of one of the first new generation PAP machines with the brilliant new ROS 125 clutched engine. A full review of this unit will be posted shortly. He's also just back from a couple weeks in the Alps (free flight), the lucky so-and-so! Using both his free flight Artax and his PAP Motion (Powerplay Sting), he said both wings kept up perfectly well with the local pilots' wings. His Action stayed at home in Scotland, however.

Gordon's flying buddy John, a relative newcomer to the sport, is progressing extremely well with his new PAP and Motion (Sting) wing. Already confident enough to make solo flights, this pic shows him over the East Buchan coast. Hardy lads, considering the poor-ish weather conditions, with motion-sickness and adrenaline-induced skid marks reported!

Chris has recently taken delivery of his new Windek Kinetik wing, a dedicated motoring wing. Doubtless we'll be seeing more of him in the air with the new laundry!! Send us a pic, Chris!

Geoff has been busy whilst out of "stir", and has been flying with Brian from Dunfermeline (shown here, right, over Abernethy, Perthshire), and also snapped  Harry in his "Flying tractor" near Crieff (below). Hope the parole week goes well, Geoff!

Jim informs me that a paramotorist was recently spotted in the Glencoe area (send us yer pics, Bill K!) Also noted is the successful training of one as yet un-named 'motorist in the Ellon area; training was competed with Geoff Soden down in Cambs. Hope we'll be hearing from you soon!

BTW, has anyone heard what Pat is up to I hear you may be in Norway? Drop is a mail, Pat, keep us up to speed!

Well that's all for now, but contact us with your news and keep sending in your monthly pics, and we'll "get em up" for ye!
